VIRTUAL MUSEUM CRITIQUE – Many museums have a virtual tour offer on their websites. Take for instance
(Links to an external site.)
(click link) with 20+ different museums that offer virtual tours. But many others also offer virtual tours. It certainly won’t be the same as going, but its close. This also gives you the option to go around the world instead of sticking just to Orlando. You may choose any museum you want that has a virtual tour, even outside that link. The assignment details are as follows:

Choose only ONE Museum to visit.
You will need to choose TWO visual artworks (painting, sculpture, or architecture) from the same museum. One should be a work you enjoy; the other should be a work you do not like. You can pick any artwork as long as they are showcased in a museum that you “tour.” Please make sure to save and then attach a picture of the artworks to your paper (insert them into your paper – if using Word: Insert>Pictures>Picture from File>Select File>Insert). If you can’t save the image file directly, see if you can do a screen shot of the website and crop the picture that way.
Please then follow the prompt below. You do not need to write this in essay format, but I will expect proper sentence structure, grammar, spelling, but more importantly, deep critical thinking and analysis of the art works and their relation to the class readings and subjects.
900-word count TOTAL minimum – 400 words for each artwork (there are two artworks you are choosing=800). Plus, the Introduction (100 words minimum).

You should answer the following questions for each artwork you are critiquing. This can be written in paragraph format, or you can just answer question by question. You should also write more than just your answers to the questions as to make your critique better understandable. The questions do not count in your word count. Your layout should follow along with the flowing guide:

Introduce the museum and artworks up front:

Which museum did you go to?
Why did you choose this museum?
Give a brief introduction on the two artworks you chose and why you chose them.

2) Description for Artwork #1 (100 words min for each artwork)

Describe the work without using value words such as “beautiful” or “ugly”:

What is the title and who is (are) the artist(s)?
When and where was the work created? Specifically. Research more if not noted at museum.
Describe the elements of the work (i.e., line movement, light, space). What do they mean?
Describe the technical qualities of the work (i.e., tools, materials). Made out of? Painted on/with?
Describe the objective subject matter. What is the object all about, objectively? Are there recognizable images? What are they?

3) Analysis for Artwork #1 (100 words min for each artwork)

Describe how the work is organized as a complete composition:

How is the work constructed or planned (i.e., movements, lines)? Why? How?
Identify some of the similarities throughout the work (i.e., repetition of lines, colors). Describe.
Identify some of the points of emphasis in the work (i.e., figure, movement).
If the work has subjects or characters, what are the relationships between or among them?

4) Interpretation for Artwork #1 (100 words min for each artwork)

Describe how the work makes you think or feel:

Describe the expressive qualities you find in the work. What expressive language would you use to describe the qualities (i.e., sad, passionate, funny)? Why?
Does the work remind you of other things you have experienced (i.e., analogy or metaphor)? How?
How does the work relate to other ideas or events in the world and/or in your other studies?

5) Judgment or Evaluation for Artwork #1 (100 words min for each artwork)

Present your opinion of the work’s success or failure:

What qualities of the work make you feel it is a success or failure? How? Why?
Compare it with similar works that you think are good or bad. Which ones? Research it.
What criteria can you list to help others judge this work?
How original is the work? Why do you feel this work is original or not original?

6) Repeat Steps 2–5 for the Artwork #2

Make sure you are doing two different artworks.
