Poetry Entwinement

For this assignment, you are to write a 2-3 page essay on a pair of poems by the same author. In this essay, you will look for common themes between the poems (you will NOT be contrasting the poems). You will not be using a critical approach, though it would be helpful to do some biographical research on your poet. An MLA Works Cited page is required. Due WEEK 10 Nov. 9

-Pick a poet and a pair of poems from the list below.
-Read the poem, then re-read and annotate.
-Free-write about the subject and theme of the poem.
-Read “Questions for Writing about an Author in Depth” p. 1078 (858)
-What do the two poems have in common? How do you know? (This is the most important question!)
-Are the poems about the same subject? Has the poet returned to similar ideas, structures, patterns?
-Create a rough draft. How will you organize the essay (block method or point by point?)
-What textual evidence will you use to support your comparison?
-How will the introduction and conclusion aid the reader in understanding your comparison?
-How will biographical information/research help in your comparison?
