Question

One of the tasks of adolescence is to separate from one's family and become an independant adult. As you know from reading Chapter 1, the journey from adolescence to adulthood is taking longer and longer as adolescents and young adults often remain financially dependent on their parents until their mid-20's. Using your knowledge of human development, hypothesize about the effects of this extended adolescence on the development of adult identity. Do you think it hurts? Can you think of ways it might help? What, if anything, should parents do to help facilitate the process?
