SPA-101: ELEMENTARY SPANISH I Final Project OVERVIEW While learning the Spanish language is important, it is also important to understand the histories and cultures associated with it. The final project will provide you with the opportunity to research a Spanish-speaking country in order to gain an in-depth view of its history, geography, and culture. You will present your findings in the form of a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation with voiceover. Course objectives covered in this project include: CO 1, CO 2, CO 5 GENERAL PLAN For your final project, you will select a Hispanic country to research and present in the form of a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation with voiceover. To do this, you will need to familiarize yourself with Kaltura Capture. Watch the following video for a tutorial on recording a presentation with audio: How to Create Presentations. Your research should include the following information: History and geography of the country Traditional celebrations Typical food and its history Interesting facts Each student will present on a different country. An ungraded Country Choice Forum is available for you to use as a space to claim your country (first come, first served) and ask any questions you might have regarding the project. Be sure to take advantage of this space! Your presentation will be completed in English and should be 8 to 12 minutes in length. Please read through all of the following Requirements and Guidelines for your project. REQUIREMENTS Your PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation must include: Title and your name At least two slides for each topic: History and geography of the country Traditional celebrations Typical food and its history Interesting facts Note: Including your title and resources slides, your presentation should consist of at least 10 slides. NO FULL SENTENCES Lots of images with captions A formal resource list slide at the end, in correct APA format The audio portion of your presentation must be 8 to 12 minutes in length (no more, no less). Your speech should be clear and articulate and you should not be reading directly from the slides, but rather using visual and textual clues to guide your presentation. GUIDELINES Your presentation must be 8 to 12 minutes in length (no more, no less). Any written information on your slides should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. For information on inserting written accent marks, should these be necessary, refer to the following website: How to Type Spanish Letters and Accents. Wikipedia and online translators are unacceptable sources. Use an even mix of hard copy and online sources because there is a definite qualitative difference between the two types. Be sure to document all contentions and facts mentioned in an academically acceptable manner. (See Writing Resources below.) Be sure to review the Final Project rubric (located in the Evaluation Rubrics folder) before submitting your presentation. If you have any questions about the requirements of the presentation, be sure to discuss them with your mentor or classmates in the Country Choice Forum well in advance of the final submission.
