4- Fundamental Analysis:
Using data retrieved from Bloomberg calculate the following for the last 2 years (end of 2019, end of 2018) All your computations must be on an excel spreadsheet that you will submit with your report.
a) Liquidity analysis (Working capital and current ratio)
b) Solvency analysis (debt to equity and times interest earned ratio)
c) Activity ratios (accounts receivable turnover, inventory turnover, total assets turnover)
d) Profitability ratios (Net profit margin, ROA, ROE)
e) Valuation ratios (Price Earnings ratio , Market to Book ratio, dividend payout)
Based on your computations above, comment on how well the company is doing with respect to all abovementioned items.
5- Market Analysis and Stock Price Calculations:
a) Using the Bloomberg terminal, find the daily price of your stock for the past year and the S&P 500 closing value for the past year, and plot the daily price and S&P 500 in a graph and comment how the company is doing relative to the market.
b) Using the Bloomberg terminal, find the following to estimate the stock price (notice that you may have already gathered some of the following in the fundamental analysis stage)
-Historical dividends (past 3 years)
-Earnings per share
-Price earnings ratio
-EPS growth rate
-Return on 90-day US T-bills (hint: use the treasury website if needed https://home.treasury.gov/)
Your estimation for stock price should be using the following models (Chapter 8):
1- Constant growth model of dividends using arithmetic growth rate
2- Using the price to earnings ratio
Compare the different prices that you’ve calculated using the 2 above models with the actual price of the company (mention date you retrieved the closing price of company ) and write a paragraph comparing your results and concluding with your recommendation to buy or sell this stock. End you report with your opinion on how well you believe the company is doing from the different analysis that you conducted.
1- Each team needs to let me know of your team ( student names and Ids) and choice of company by November 23 so that I can approve it first before commencing the analysis. In case two teams chose the same company, it will be assigned to the first team who informed me. If you still don’t have a team (and would like to be part of a team please inform me).
2- The deadline for submitting the report is last day of classes i.e. December 10, 2020 class time. Each student needs to upload the report on BB folder by 11:00 am along with the excel sheet used for calculations. Each team needs to provide me with evidence that they retrieved the data from the Bloomberg terminals, so you need to provide me with screen shots of the data retrieved in the appendix of the report. BOTH students need to participate in the data collection, and by submitting your report as a team you are certifying that both of you equally contributed to the report with both participating in the data collection, analysis, and write up stage of the assignment. The team will get one grade, and I don’t want any complaints about “free-riders”!
Please note that there is no correct/wrong answer for such assignment. Grading will be based on clarity & organization of the report, inclusion of all requested ratios/analysis, complying to report guidelines and meeting deadlines. I will not provide you with a specific report template as student originality of the report will also be an important factor in your grade. Keep in mind that the report needs to be brief and focused, you should refer to your computations/ratios and analyze them, not only focus on just mentioning the calculations. Full computations should be included in the excel spreadsheet or appendix.
Finally, no report should be like another student’s/group’s report. Any similarities will be considered as academic dishonesty and a violation of ZU Honor Code. Students must be prepared to accept the appropriate sanctions for any dishonest academic behavior. At the very minimum, your assignment will get a zero score.
