25 – 30 marks Paper has a clear, consistent and well supported argument or thesis. It teaches something new about the topic. Paper is free from grammatical errors. It is well constructed, creative in conception and persuasive. Paper uses appropriate evidence with stylistically proper citations (APA guidelines)
20 – 24 marks Paper has a clear thematic focus, fulfills assignment expectations, makes good use of evidence to support thesis, has infrequent, minor grammatical and spelling errors. Paper could be strengthened in terms of conception, presentation, organization, style or evidence.
15 – 19 marks Paper fulfills requirements of the assignment but has fundamental conceptual problems, makes poor use of evidence. It lacks focus and/ or is sloppily presented (e.g. careless grammatical, spelling errors, lack of organizational logic, poor transition between ideas)
10 – 14 marks Paper fails to follow directions for the assignment or generally shows a lack of effort. Paper has a sloppy presentation
